MOOSIC, Pa. — Jeremy Lewan joined the Stormtracker 16 weather team in November 2022 as a part-time fill-in meteorologist.
Ever since he was 5 years old, he’s wanted to be a meteorologist. For his 6th birthday, his mother bought him a children’s weather station and, that same year, his kindergarten teacher allowed him to present daily weather reports in front of the class.
After majoring in Environmental Science & Sustainability at High Tech High School in North Bergen, New Jersey, he majored in Meteorology at the Honors College of Rutgers University—New Brunswick in New Jersey. In May 2022, he graduated Meteorology Student of the Year with his Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
For all 18 years of his education—from kindergarten through graduation from college—Jeremy has earned nothing less than an A in every class he has ever taken. Throughout his 4 years at High Tech High School, he received an A+ in all 42 out of 42 classes he took.
He was the only National NBC News Climate Unit Intern in the entire country for 3 consecutive semesters from Summer 2021 to Spring 2022, working at 30 Rock in New York City. He prepared and produced weather content for the TODAY Show with Al Roker, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, MSNBC/NBC News Now, and more. Also in his senior year, Jeremy was the only recipient in the country of the American Meteorological Society's Top-Prize $10,000 Orville Family Scholarship.
Jeremy loves the ocean as much as he loves the atmosphere. Right after graduation, he embarked on a week-long oceanographic research ship expedition onboard a vessel owned by the United States Navy and operated by the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, in transit from Seattle to San Diego, as part of the STEMSEAS (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, Student Experiences Aboard Ships) Program. Along with just a handful of students selected from across the United States, he conducted oceanographic research collecting plankton and sampling seawater, and took part in numerous workshops onboard to enhance his skills as an effective science communicator and storyteller.
Jeremy now serves as an ambassador for STEMSEAS, speaking at conferences around the country to raise awareness for the program and educating students about the many career possibilities available in the geosciences. Jeremy has always been inspired and encouraged to pursue his passions for meteorology and oceanography, and he aims to encourage others by dismantling long-outdated stereotypes and serving as a role model for students who look like him, thus championing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the geoscience realm.
In addition to his broadcast job, Jeremy is also a professional signed model and has walked on the runway in shows for New York Fashion Week and Atlantic City Fashion Week. He regularly models suits and tuxedos for the New Jersey Bridal Showcase and Wedding Expo. Jeremy loves that he can showcase his fashion on-air in the backyard!
Jeremy loves traveling and adventuring on total solar eclipse chases. He also enjoys going to concerts, bike riding, hiking, swimming, photography, and videography.
