WAVERLY, Pa. — A special brew is ready to go at Last Minute Brewing Company in Lackawanna County.

This weekend, a fundraiser will be held in memory of Lexi Caviston Ashmar, who died from brain cancer in 2020.

Lexi's father, Paul Caviston, says the event is a small part of a larger initiative with the nonprofit Stache Strong.

Participating breweries make a beer, and $1 from each can or draft goes to help the organization raise money for brain cancer research.

"There's over 250 breweries nationwide. This isn't just something local. This is every single state is brewing Stache Strong," Caviston said.

This is the third year that the Caviston family is teaming up with the brewery for the fundraiser.

Owner E.J. Lastauskas says it was a no-brainer to help a good cause.

"It's a fantastic thing for everybody gets our name out there a little bit more than what it might be and, most importantly, brings awareness to the cause," Lastauskas said.

In its short existence, the organization has raised more than $2.5 million.

Caviston says it's important to continue to give back, and Lexi has greatly inspired this beer "Always Give."

"Her initials around the corner, some flowers on the can. Hi friends are on the can. And it's that's why it's personal to us because it's a personal beer," said Caviston.

The beer has been a hit and sells out each time it's brewed.

This year, Last Minute made a double batch, and it will be available in more places.

"We have VooDoo Brewing from down on South Washington Avenue that just opened up. They're going to be guest-tapping the beer. We have the Waldorf Park up on East Mountain. They're going to be putting it on their tap system and the Union Craft House," Caviston added.

The fundraiser is Friday and Saturday at Last Minute, and next weekend, there will be another at Voodoo Brewing in Scranton.
